The Charmer

“Now, the Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, robust wine. So you want to pair it with  read meat, beef or maybe lamb. What I’ve done here is roasted these lamb chops with bell pepper, thyme and just a hint of mint.  Now that and  glass of Cabernet – that’s what I call a happy marriage, a feast for all the senses”, he smiled turning on the charm. His audience, comprising mainly of the fairer sex, already captivated by his dapper looks and baritone voice, swooned. Oh! To be married to a man like him, a lady whispered to her friend.

Oh! To be married to a man like him, his wife sighed as she heard him hollering  from  the living room. There he lay, sprawled across the couch, watching TV as usual. “Bah, these fried potatoes taste like crap! Why can’t you make them the way my mom does?”, he asked her, as he topped up his glass, half full of cheap whiskey, with some chilled Coke.

Love the way you have used the same sentence twice, to convey a different meaning each time. Well written :-)

I like the change from fantasy to reality. Well done.

Don't you just hate reality? This is a great piece, I love the switch from the fantasy to the reality of it.

The truth did really startle
charm is only for other people
the people at home we belittle
maybe its time to change a little.

Very well written Dreamer.

Love the contrast between the "TV" world and the "real" world. Life is too short to drink cheap whiskey.

She should get her life in order and get rid of the creep and start living her dreams.....

Hope you sated your hunger pangs!

Exactly, often we confuse the two.

We are our truest selves at home, right?

I've heard women asking their husbands, why they couldn't be more like Mr X, Y or Z. It often struck me that Mrs X, Y and Z may be asking their husbands the same question :)

Thank you !

Reality though not so rosy is quite interesting though, ain't it? Thanks for your appreciation :D

Such a profound poem this time, Govind! Most of us do have one persona for home and another one for the rest of the world, don't we?

And yet cheap whiskey seems to be the crutch that some folks need to get through life.

Dreamer said...

Yup, she should!

Don't we all? :D

LOL, dreamer!! "Oh! To be married to a man like him" loved the way you interpreted this expression in two different ways. Brilliant narration!

Loved the contrast in this: it's a good reminder of fantasy vs. reality. Nicely done!
